We started the year with another hike in Griffith Park. There are 53 miles of hiking trails in this park so we chose a different trail than we had previously been on. This trail was steep and we hiked upwards for what seemed like an eternity, but it was probably only a hour. Coming down was worse due to sand over rock, resulting in slips but thankfully no falls. An area called Dante's Peak gave us excellent views of the area.
Today I took the Metro to downtown LA to check out another bookstore that was on this list that Dale sent to me of best bookstores in the world. The name of this one is 'The Last Bookstore' and is located in an old bank and has marble pillars and high ceilings. Upstairs is the labyrinthe and artists shops. The old bank vault houses horror and true crime books. There are art installations throughout and it is a wonderful space to wander through.
After spending time in the bookstore I took the Metro back to Hollywood as the location of the bookstore was not in a particularly lovely area, seeming a little "seedy" and I was not keen about being there after sunset. Dawn volunteered to drive me but this was something I wanted to do by myself.
In my time here I have seen 5 movies: 47 Ronin, Grudge Match, The Wolf of Wall Street, August: Osage County, and American Hustle. I love being in the city where the first movie showing is at 0900. Yesterday people were lined up for the premiere of Paranormal Activity in hopes that the stars of the movie would be there.
I have only one full day left in California and even though I have had a great time, i am looking forward to going home. Thanks for joining me on my trip.
I have heard of people going on holidays that consist of traveling to different roller coasters for instance. Wouldn't it be fun to have the money to travel to book stores of interest around the world?
ReplyDeleteThat's a great idea. I did go to a bookstore in Portugal that was on the list, but that was before we knew there was a list.
DeleteI have very much enjoyed following you on your vacation. Sad to see it end, but I know the feeling about getting home and after a few days it's where next. That book store is remarkable. CHEERS PAT
